Wayward Italian striker Mario Balotelli has insisted that French club Nice have not taken a risk in signing him from Liverpool.</div>

“The career that I have had, it’s 
different to what has been written in the press,” Balotelli said at a 
press conference on Friday as he and fellow new signing Younes Belhanda,
 the French-born Moroccan international playmaker, were unveiled.</div>

“To me I don’t represent a risk. I have had fitness problems, but a risk? No!”</div>

The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal 
at the Allianz Riviera after being allowed to leave Anfield on a free

The Lagos State University has commenced
 the admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session using 
the online screening approach.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, said on Friday that the institution had begun to use the system.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He said that candidates, who chose LASU 
as their first choice as directed ‎by the Joint Admission Matriculation 
Board, would be screened online.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Fagbohun said that an online application
 portal had already been designed for the candidates to upload their 
results, certificates and other relevant data.He said, “The university will go online 
and shortlist the credentials of successful candidates, who chose LASU 
as their first choice, for onward transmission to JAMB.

“We are aware that our prospective 
students are expecting us to invite them for the screening but it will 
be done online and we have already started that.”</div>

Fagbohun said that there was no discord

He said that every university is complying with JAMB’s directives not to
 conduct the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.</div>

He said, “We are acting in accordance 
‎with JAMB’s directive to screen the candidates’ certificates and other

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja commended the Chief Executive
 Officer and Co-founder of social networking website, Facebook, Mark 
Elliot Zuckerberg for sharing his wealth of knowledge with Nigerian 
youths, and inspiring a new generation of entreprepreneur President Buhari
 said the various meetings held with Nigerian youths since his arrival 
were most timely as the country was already exploring opportunities to 
spur development through entrepreneurship.

“Nigeria has always been identified as a country with great potentials 
for growth, especially with our youthful population, but now we are 
moving beyond the potentials to reality.

“I am impressed by your simplicity in sharing your knowledge and wealth 
with those with less income,” the President said.

President Buhari noted that the simplicity and magnanimity of the 
entrepreneur, who is among the world’s richest men, had also challenged 
the culture of lavish wealth display and impulsive spending that had 
become peculiar to Nigerians.

“In our culture, we are not used to seeing successful people appear like
 you. We are not used to seeing successful people jogging and sweating 
on the streets.

“We are more used to seeing successful people in air-conditioned places.
 We are happy you are well-off and simple enough to always share,” he 
added.
In his remarks, Zuckerberg said he was impressed by the interest, energy
 and entrepreneurial spirit displayed by young Nigerians in all the ICT 
camps that he had visited.

“I was highly impressed by the talent of the youths in the Co-creation 
Hub in Yaba. I was blown away by their talent and the level of energy 
that I saw,” he said.

Zuckerberg said he was in the country to promote the penetration of 
“fast and cheap” internet connectivity, Express-wifi, that would help 
people create online businesses and reduce poverty.

It all started when 
Cynthia Morgan left a comment on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s 
photo of his trip to Nigeria.

Specifically the one where he said “he visited Nollywood, crashed a hip 
hop music video, and met some of Nigeria’s biggest stars”. Cynthia took 
offence to the tag of ‘Hip – Hop’ commenting that “we do Afrobeats, not 
hip hop”. But trust Nigerians, they weren’t having it.

In this situation, both parties are saying the same thing. It just boils
 down to how each person chooses to describe African music. Some feel 
any music released by an African should have the tag ‘Afro’ attached to 
it even our national anthem. That’s why the tag is added to the 
generally known genres of music I.e. Pop, R&B, Dancehall and others.
 It’s just a way of making sounds from this part of the world stand out.
 It doesn’t take anything away from the ‘Africanness’ of the song or the
 musicians who created it.So this brouhaha brought about by Cynthia’s comment is really uncalled 
for. It’s something of an identity crisis for music lovers all over the 
world. Music is a general language spoken by the whole world. Let us as 
Nigerians not get offended. There is no need to go up in arms.

<strong>Denrele is possessed by an unusual spirit and there are 
several reasons the average mind can see this. The young man is not 
quite alright, let’s be frank.</strong><br /><br />Every other day, he tries as hard as possible to switch things from one degree to another in his incredible displays. <br /><br />But
 I suppose it makes sense because Denrele is a popular guy for whom we 
can’t exactly say much other than he hosts red carpet shows here and 
there and he dresses like a lady.<br />

<br /><br />And yes, we should add that he also wears wigs, make up on his face as well as high heels.<br />

So yes, perhaps this is how and where he’s chosen to pursue a career –
 on social media, red carpets and the gossip sections of soft sell 
magazines and blogs whose editors are at a loss for ideas on whether or 
not he is gay or bisexual as he appears and has been widely alleged to 
be.<br /><br />It is incredible. <br /><br />As we said earlier here, Denrele 
loves the attention and publicity that comes with appearing like a lady.
 Over the years, he has embraced this style, pushed this identity and 
grown from one point to another in his brand of ‘fashionista’.<br />

<br />

Again, I suppose it makes sense that the young man would go in this 
direction given he hasn’t exactly established himself as a TV 
personality or a radio host, so clearly he isn’t an ace broadcaster.<br /><br />We
 first knew him in the TV series Everyday People by Tajudeen Adepetu in 
the early 2000s, and from there he moved on to host music shows on 
Soundcity. But he left before long, after a few years at best, only to 
become the man that we’ve come to see every passing day – a whole new 
man, unfazed, bold and ridiculously feminine in appearance and 
disposition.<br /><br />This is one of the hardest types of pieces to create
 if you have met or come in contact with Denrele Edun in person. In real
 life, he is quite the chilling guy. No arrogance of any sorts, 
well-mannered and well spoken.<br />

<br /><br />At
 an MTV Base gig in 2013, he was on ground performing some hosting 
duties or so at Rhapsody’s, Ikeja, Lagos and from the entrance he hugged
 and embraced everyone he could as though he was in search of some 
limelight of sorts. But in truth he wasn’t. He is well known, familiar 
with the media terrain and lifestyle industry, though not carried away 
by the ephemeral breeze of glamour and razzmatazz. <br /><br />Denrele, to 
the best of my knowledge, is a cool guy. He is a decent media host and 
possesses features that can push him into way greater heights.<br />

He has just deliberately chosen to become a clown. His appearances 
are clownish and silly to say the least, and the menace is becoming 
slightly unbearable. <br /><br />With a soaring social media presence and 
the attendant effects his brand of ‘madness’ could have on the younger 
ones, one feels the need to help Denrele with some kind words of advice 
or better still put him in prayers.<br />

<br /><br />It’s
 not always fun and games seeing a young man so full of potentials 
derail in this way and manner all because we think he is being creative.<br /><br />Better
 to advise him now so he makes hay while the sun is shining than we all 
fold our arms and watch an otherwise impressive talent ‘die’ just 
because he was trying to swim against the tides.<br /><br />Hopefully he gets this wake-up call in due time.<br />

Is Nigeria set to break 
another world record? It might seem so, since the Bible Society of 
Nigeria (BSN) has concluded plans to hold the 2016 Marathon Bible 
Reading.

According to Mr Dare Ajiboye, the general secretary of the organizing 
committee, it is billed to hold in Lagos from September 5-9, and would 
hold at 50 different centres simultaneously.

Mr Ajiboye made this known in a statement made available on Friday, 
September 2 while in Lagos. He stated that the event would give 
participants the opportunity to read the Bible in their native tongues.

According to Vanguard, he also said that the programme would be declared
 open on Monday, September 5, at Shepherd’s Flock International church.

“It is scheduled for Lagos from Sept. 5 to Sept. 9 at 50 different 
centres simultaneously between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. The unique 
feature of this programme is that it gives the participants opportunity 
to read the Bible aloud in their own native languages.

“Bibles in different languages such as English, Isoko, Igala, Igede, 
Ebira, Yoruba, Efik, Igbo, Hausa, Nupe, Khana, Urhobo, Fulfude, Jju, 
Bokyi, Edo, Arabic, Tiv, Itsekiri, Kanuri, among others, will be on 
display for the participants to choose from,” he said.

Ajiboye also urged Christians to take advantage of the programme as it 
promised to be spiritually rewarding.

“Participants, irrespective of denomination, age or sex, will have a 
three-fold joy by participating. There is joy in reading the Bible in 
their languages, helping someone else hear the word of God in a new way 
and joining others in continuous reading of the bible,’’ he said.

The question of whether they will break a world record with this 
marathon bible reading is something that is to be considered.

BSN has the complete bible in 24 Nigerian languages and gives bibles 
free to old people’s homes and orphanages, people with visual 
disability, prisoners, the deaf, among others.

It is a non-profit-making interdenominational Christian organisation 
that translates the bible into Nigerian languages, publishes and 
distributes it and also raises funds for bible work.

Meanwhile, the Guinness World Records has had Nigeria in its pages a few
 times. First , Nigeria got into the Book of World Records for having 
the biggest football jersey in the world.

Then, 300,000 students from the 600 public secondary schools in Lagos 
brushed their teeth simultaneously at different locations to defeat 
India who had set the previous tooth brushing record and put Nigeria on

New Nigeria coach 
Gernot Rohr has said he will soon meet with Vincent Enyeama to discuss a
 comeback by the Lille goalkeeper to the Super Eagles.
Former Nigeria skipper Enyeama quit international football in October after a spat with then Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh.<br />

His place has since been taken by Carl Ikeme, who features for English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.<br />

Rohr has been handed the task of qualifying Nigeria for the 2018 
World Cup and he has maintained the country will need their best players
 to achieve the goal.<br />

“I live in France and I know Enyeama. He’s a good player and I do not
 know why he is no longer playing for Nigeria,” said the Franco-German 
coach.<br />

“We have spoken and perhaps I hope to meet him soon because we need 
our best players for us to have the best chance to qualify for the World
 Cup.”<br />

Nigeria are drawn in a tough qualifying group for Russia 2018 with Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.<br />

They begin their qualifying campaign on October 3 in Zambia, before the host Algeria the following month.<br />

“It’s my mission to qualify Nigeria to Russia 2018,” he said.<br />

“Nigeria have the best players in Africa and I have the German 
mentality to bring good organisation and discipline to this team.”<br />

Out-of-favour Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure will play no part in 
Manchester City’s Champions League group stage matches after being left 
out of the squad named on Friday.<br />

The 33-year-old’s sole appearance for City this season has been in 
the 1-0 victory over Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest in the second leg 
of the Champions League play-offs.<br />

However, manager Pep Guardiola, who coached him at Barcelona and 
where Toure won the Champions League, two league titles and a Spanish 
Cup, has deemed him surplus to requirements for the group stage.<br />

Champions League squad and Guardiola still has 18 at his disposal,

FIFA president 
Gianni Infantino on Friday hailed video replays as “a new page in 
history” a day after the technology had its first test in France’s 3-1 
friendly win over Italy in Bari.<br />

“It was a first at this level with national teams. We’re moving 
forward. It was promising,” said Infantino. “On two occasions in 
particular we used video replays. It’s positive.”<br />

Infantino hopes “video assistant referees” will be used at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.<br />

“If it works then of course the entire footballing world would be 
happy to have this system to help referees during the biggest tournament
 in the world,” he said.<br />

Evacuations were under way in New Zealand Friday after a tsunami 
warning was issued following a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake which 
struck before dawn off the east coast of the North Island.

An initial “potential” warning was upgraded to a tsunami after a wave
 measuring 30 centimetres was generated near the sparsely populated East
 Cape about 90 minutes after the earthquake struck.<br />

“The first tsunami activity has arrived. Tsunami activity will 
continue for several hours,” the Civil Defence organisation, responsible
 for national emergency management, said in a statement.<br />

The warning covered the East Coast of the North Island and the upper South Island.
The shallow tremor was estimated at a depth of around 30 kilometres 
(18 miles) off the coast, according to the US Geological Survey.<br />

It was centred 167 kilometres (103 miles) from the nearest main town, Gisborne, which has a population of around 45,000.<br />

Radio New Zealand reported that residents in coastal areas of the 
East Cape region were being advised by local civil defence officials to 
evactuate.<br />

Civil defence public information officer Sheridan Gundry said the emergency management centre has been activated.<br />

The earthquake, which struck at 4:37am (1637 GMT) was felt over much 
of the country but there were no immediate reports of damage.<br />

New Zealand is on the boundary of the Australian and Pacific tectonic
 plates, which form part of the so-called “Ring of Fire”, and 
experiences up to 15,000 tremors a year.

The much-awaited
 partial solar eclipse also known as annular eclipse, finally occurred 
yesterday as predicted. Stargazers in different parts of the country 
were yesterday treated to a spectacular “ring of fire” in the sky as the
 sun was almost – but not completely – eclipsed.The new month of 
September 2016 was ushered in yesterday morning with a solar eclipse, 
which was been sighted at different times across Nigeria.<br />

The eclipse was captured in Lagos at about 8.35am though it was 
expected to have been seen in the city as at 7:14 am with a peak at 8:26
 am. At about the same time, viewers in the nation’s capital, Abuja, 
gathered at the National Space Research and Development Agency to view 
the sight.<br />

The annular eclipse was obstructed by a cloudy sky for much of the 
time, which made it difficult to clearly see the rare occurrence by 
viewers in some parts of the country, especially Lagos.<br />

There was, expectedly, funny banter on social media about the rare 
occurrence. It all started when some places in Lagos did not experience 
the phenomenon at about 7.15a.m. as predicted by the NSRDA, eliciting 
some jibes.Some of which were: “Who has kidnapped our eclipse?”, “The 
economy has forced the eclipse to run to Ghana o,”
“The eclipse fears being tainted by corruption,”“The eclipse has been
 held by traffic,” “The eclipse has been padded o,” “This eclipse is 
inconclusive,” “They have misappropriated the funds for this lunar 
eclipse again this year, that’s why we cant see it in Lagos,” 
“Everything in Nigeria is partial. I’m tired of this country,” and “The 
APC Govt claims responsibility for the eclipse and have blamed Jonathan 
for the reason it wasn’t visible in some part of the country.”<br />

Other cities in the country where the eclipse was viewed include Port
 Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital,
 Sokoto, Anyigba in Kogi State, Kano, Osogbo, Benin City.<br />

Earlier, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA) 
had issued a statement that the Annular Eclipse will be experienced 
between the hours of 7:15a.m. and 10:03a.m. with slight variations in 
actual timing across the country.<br />

Expectedly, Nigerians had gathered at the NSRDA centre, Abuja, to 
catch a glimpse of the eclipse. The spectators, who were mostly 
students, were given solar glasses to observe the phenomenon.It was an 
interesting moment at 8.47am, when the moon was spotted overlapping the 
sun with a dark cloud, making the entire spectrum turn dark.<br />

A previous eclipse occurred in 2013, and another annular solar 
eclipse is expected to occur in 2018. An annular eclipse happens when 
the moon is farther away from the earth than during a total eclipse.<br />

The result is a bright circle of sunshine surrounding a dark, shadowy
 core. The moon does not move in a perfect circle around the earth – 
instead, its orbit is slightly elliptical.<br />

When the moon is farther away from the earth, it appears smaller – 
and does not totally cover the sun’s disc during a total eclipse. The 
result is also known as a “ring of fire” eclipse.The next eclipse is due
 to take place in February 2017, and can be seen from parts of South 
America and Africa.<br />

<strong>Recipe (for 10 servings)</strong><br />

• 300g of plain flour (sieved)<br />

• 250g of Castor sugar<br />

• 10 eggs (whisked)<br />

• 250g butter (softened)<br />

• 500g of mixed dried fruit<br />

• 1 tablespoon of baking powder (sieved)<br />

• (Ribbons, sugar, eggs and paste animals for decoration)<br />

<strong>Preparation:</strong><br />

Preheat the oven and grease an ‘E’ shaped cake pan. Line the pan 
with a greased paper and set aside. Pour the sugar into a bowl, add the 
softened butter and mix until fluffy. Gradually whisk in the eggs, stir 
thoroughly and add the fruits. Gradually mix the baking powder with the 
flour and fold into the egg mixture. Mix well and spoon into the ‘E’ 
shaped cake pan. Bake until the cake is golden and springy to touch. 
Remove from the oven, leave in the tin for some minutes until slightly 
cool.<br />

Turn out the cake on a wire rack, peel off the lining and brush 
with some egg yolk. Put the cake on a baking sheet and grit for four 
minutes to brown the top. Cool and decorate with sugared eggs, ribbons 
and sugar paste animals. Serve cool as an Easter delight!<br />

Abuja-based dietician, Mrs Chioma Mmiriukwu, says the quality of food 
eaten by an individual determines how soundly he or she sleeps.<br />

Mmiriukwu said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.<br />

She said that the composition of a diet impacted on the quality of sleep an individual had as well as his/her health generally.<br />

According to her, poor quality sleep could lead to diabetes and high blood pressure.<br />

“It is known that poor sleep quality can lead to health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.<br />

“Just as foods can impact on health and other areas, it can also contribute to good or bad sleep.<br />

“To improve our chances of quality sleep, proteinous foods like eggs should be eaten four hours before bedtime,” she said.<br />

The dietician also said that healthy fats such as avocado, coconut 
oil, lean meats and high antioxidant foods could enhance production of 
sleep hormone.<br />

According to her, vegetables and high nutrient fruits can detoxify high alkalinity which impedes sleep.<br />

Mmiriukwu added that sugary foods, simple foods and processed 
carbohydrates should be avoided at night because they could impede 
quality sleep.<br />

She said that a recent study by Purdue University, Indiana, USA, 
found out that people who were losing weight through a high protein diet
 slept well.<br />

The expert said the study proved that middle-aged adults who had a 
low-calorie, high-protein diet were not only able to better manage their
 weight, but had higher sleep quality as well.<br />

The dietician said the study also found that sleep and proper diet 
were important modifiers of health and wellness, which had a positive 
effect on overall health.<br />

 <span style="font-weight: 400;">Something interesting happened over 
the weekend or should I say I witnessed something interesting. While 
coaching a large group of people, I noticed most had given in to stress 
and pain of the workout and they were on the floor with jaded looks on 
their faces. This prompted me to stop the music and launch into 10 
minute rant about leaving your comfort zone. </span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">What made it interesting was the 
response. They dragged themselves up and slowly started to push. I 
started hearing grunts and cheers of motivation that sounded like battle
 cries. It was quite an experience. I doubt it was my rant that got them
 up but rather, it was the collective agreement that this lifestyle 
affects every area of your life. For real progress and change, you need 
to take things to the next level. </span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">With less than a month to go till the
 world gets ‘summer fever’, now is the perfect time to kick your workout
 routines into high gear and actually make some significant progress 
toward reaching your goals.</span><br />

We know that you want to get rid of that last layer of fat to uncover
 that body you’ve got hidden underneath. If you could get to transform 
your body overnight, would you pump up your shoulders, get a huge chest 
or a go for a serious six-pack? The answer? None of the above: Over half
 of my clients just want an “overall fat-free physique” rather than a 
single bigger or better body part. The reality is that you will have to 
work extremely hard for every pound and calorie and you will have to 
learn to push yourself.<br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Here some suggestions for a few applications of the lifestyle changes I am talking about:</span><br />

<b>High Intensity Interval Training</b><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Ah, good old interval and 
high-intensity training. I’m sure you have heard all about the numerous 
benefits of HIIT and for a good reason: it works. If you’re looking for a
 surefire way to burn fat faster and lose some pounds in the process, 
HIIT is a solid way to go. HIIT is more time efficient in burning fat 
than a traditional cardio workout. Not only will your body burn more 
calories but you will also continue to burn more calories and fat in the
 24 hours after your workout. </span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">If you think that hitting the weights
 is the only thing you have to do to lose fat faster, you’re wrong. You 
need a solid balance of weight training, cardio and diet. The body will 
burn primarily carbohydrates during the first twenty minutes of 
cardiovascular exercise. Right about minute twenty, the body shifts over
 and starts to burn stored body fat as the primary source of energy.</span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">You need a combination of both weight
 training and cardio to get fat off your body. Cardio alone will only 
train one type of muscle fiber and you’ll only be building one part of 
your fat-burning furnace. Many people do tons of cardio every day and 
don’t lift weights. They never change the way they look. I know a lot of
 people that lift weights that realize their limitations once challenged
 in different ways.</span><br />

<b>Hit The Weights</b>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re not already hitting the gym
 and racking up the weights, now’s the time if fat loss is your goal. 
Even if you start small and work your way up to heavier weights, gaining
 muscle is going to put you on the fast track to hitting that goal. When
 it comes to exercise, you have to train with weights to increase lean 
mass. Fat is burned inside of your muscle cells.</span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">The bigger and more plentiful your 
muscle cells, the bigger your fat-burning furnace. Adding muscle 
basically increases the size of the fat-burning furnace. Dieting 
incorrectly or exercising incorrectly decreases your fat-burning 
furnace. This is often why when a male-female couple embarks on a good 
exercise and nutrition plan, the male drops more weight more quickly 
than the female. He has more muscle tissue and a much bigger furnace. He
 can burn food at a much faster rate than the female who has less muscle
 and a much smaller furnace.</span><br />

<b>Pick Up A Sport</b><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Picking up a sport is a great way to 
burn extra calories, trim fat and still have  a lot of fun doing it. 
Playing a sport involves cardio and lots of non-linear movement 
(jumping, back pedaling, side stepping etc), making it healthier than 
straight jogging. Plus you are having fun without getting bored. </span><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">You don’t have to be the next Michael
 Jordan to go down to your fitness facility. Just hop on the basketball 
court, and look for a game. Most people are happy to have another 
player. Just make sure you know the rules (how to dribble). I only 
mention basketball because that’s my sport of choice. Maybe squash is 
your thing, maybe its soccer, maybe its even tennis!</span><br />

<b>Reduce Stress With Yoga</b><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Breathe deep. Relax. Breathe deeper. 
Feel better? Feel healthier? Well, keep doing it because it’s helping 
you stay fit and lose fat. Stress has been known to contribute to 
abdominal fat and a whole host of other health issues. Grabbing your 
Yoga mat and heading out for a little relaxation will go a long way 
towards helping you reach your fitness goals. Besides, who couldn’t use a
 little less stress and a little more relaxation, right?</span><br />

<b>More Home Cooked Meals… Less Eating Out</b><br />

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Unless you’ve been plugging away at a
 healthy lifestyle for a long time, going out to eat at restaurants can 
be a daunting task. Most menus don’t provide very good details and 
calorie counts on all their meals so knowing what to order can often be 
an exercise in futility. The more home-cooked meals you eat, the more 
likely you’re able to maintain that healthy lifestyle. It’s much easier 
to control portion, ingredients, and quality of the food when you’re 
cooking it yourself.</span><br />

Lai Mohammed, the 
minister of information, has revealed the amount recovered by Muhammadu 
Buhari’s government so far.

Mr Mohammed stated that these funds can’t rescue Nigeria’s economy as 
they are a far cry from what the country needs to revive the economy.<br />

The minister said this 
on Friday when he appeared on a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in 
Abuja.

The minister, speaking during the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum  in
 Abuja, added that the amount of money recovered is always being made 
public.

He said: “What we have recovered and if my record is right is about N78 
billion, and 3 million dollars.

“We have been able to block various accounts in which about 9 billion 
dollar is found but those are not money available to us because we are 
still in court over them.

“The government spends N165 billion every month to pay federal civil 
servants, even what has been so far recovered will not even pay 50 per 
cent of the salaries in a month.’’

Minister Mohammed gave assurance that every cent recovered will be 
sensibly spent and nobody could re-loot what had been returned under the
 incumbent government.

He further clarified that Nigerians should understand that what had been
 recovered was so little in comparison with what the people needed on a 
regular basis.<br />

“N400 billion seems a 
lot, but you must also understand that for three or four years 
contractors were not paid,” he added.

“So, when we paid this money to contractors, they also use part of it to
 settle their own debt, they use part of it to recall laid off staff.

“But the truth of the matter is that many of them have been paid, they 
are yet to mobilise to site and they cannot do so until the rains are 
over.”

Nigeria has recently announced its first recession since 1991, according
 to Central Bank data.

The country has been slammed by low oil prices, attacks by Niger Delta 
militants and foreign currency shortages.

The National Bureau of Statistics fresh report put estimated oil 
production at 1.69 million barrels per day......<br />
